Built at Livorno in 1910, the 10,000-ton Averof is one of just three armoured cruisers still in existence in the world. She first saw action against Turkey in 1912 and led a charmed and sometimes dramatic life through WW2 until her eventual restoration as a museum ship beginning in the 1980’s.
